Tyree "TY" Pope has played with top R&B Artists since the 1980s. He was a finalist on Showtime At The Apollo and an award winning poet who has toured from New York to Florida and as far west as Louisville, Kentucky. Taking after his heroes, Nikki Giovanni, Meshell Ndegeocello, Langston Hughes, Maya Angelou and especially, Gil Scott-Heron, TY SPOKEN SOUL has arisen to grab the mantle of socio-political spoken word to smooth, groovin' music and hard-hittin' R&B. Tyree Pope has always appreciated artists with cultural integrity. He began exploring poetry in the 8th grade writing a limerick, "The World" which was published in the Citywide Scholastic. As a teen, Tyree and his friends formed a band, playing R&B music in his friends living room. That band, Spectrum Of Sound, grew to playing all around the Tri-State area, culmulating in an appearance at the world famous Apollo Theater. He has also studied theater under acting teacher, Leon Pickney, appearing in numerous productions in the Tri-State area. He began studying the bass under renowned bass teacher, Buddy Booker. Tyree auditioned for bass chairs, landing the bass chair for Stephen Cee's 4DSEA, Turkish singer-songwriter, Serkan and Brookyn based soul\rock outfit, IAMISIS. When it came time to produce Ty's solo project He sought out producer, Jerome Dickens and he along with the contributions of Vocalist Caprice Todmann and Bassist, David Burnett helped craft a masterful debut CD," BEGINNINGS." In the tradition of Gil Scott-Heron, TY SPOKEN SOUL is a fusion of raw, gritty street sounds mixed with smooth, eclectic R&B to create a spoken word masterpiece. Timely, Funky, Funny, Grooving, Thoughtful, Provocative.....these are only some of the words to describe this groundbreaking debut. TY SPOKEN SOUL is available for all types of events, ranging from clubs and private events to colleges and major outdoor festivals.
